lyrics

ballad for the earth

I climb out of the rubble gasping for air. Crowded buses don’t roam here anymore.
I carry you with me, to show you the world as it is now.
Could we have driven electric cars?
Or picked up after ourselves?
Could we all loved each other that much more?
Did we not pay enough attention to the world?

Run up to the ridge, and look over all that has become!

Now we can see, exactly what we’ve done,
let ourselves be swept away by greed.
Or did you feel powerless under those in power?
Selfishly consumed by their own needs.

I guess they didn’t see, I guess they didn’t see this…

I collapse to the ground feeling small and alone,
but hope’s out there somewhere waiting for it to be again,
with cities made of stone and food injected with things good for our bones.
An unbiased system of law, a place where everyone thrives and can be strong.

Chart the stars and they’ll tell you where we’ve been.
Ask more questions, don’t follow blindly, and do what you can,
to save the world and each other.

Look over the ridge, and imagine all we could become!

It’s not a choice to be made or taken lightly, understand!
So stand up and start again!
This is your second chance, understand!
So stand up and start again!

And the rest, well you’ll see…will come.

Pull myself from the ground feeling strong, and I know, hope’s out there somewhere.
