about

The song is about a historian who has traveled the world for thousands of years providing accounts and a history of people, although it's always been the perspective of the "winning" side and the more dominating traits of that time. But now this historian has glimpsed the future and how we'll need to know the truth about our history and embrace the values that are more commonly attributed to the feminine - love, compassion, caring and co-operation.

lyrics

The Historian

From the hills to the mountains and back to the hills.
I’ll unearth it, I’ll read it, tell you what it is and what it isn’t.

I can see the history.
It speaks to me.
It speaks to me.

These thousand years of forging history.
For the first time I’ll tell it honestly.

The account begins in the city.
Where we create and war is nothing.

Where we worshipped life and all was sacred.
Where giving life was most important.

I can see, knowing history.
The future speaks.
It speaks to me.

Where we’re not ruled by fear and the blade.
Nothing’s perfect but it will be ok.
Where we worship life and all is sacred.
Where giving life is most important.

Lay down your blade!
